Fiber News

Welcome to Fiber News!

                  Hello Yarnies!
I hope this note finds you well.  I loved the little tease of spring that we had on Tuesday!  Just enough to spark the thought of looking at spring yarns and projects for warmer weather and then wednesday brought us freezing rain, hail and snow. Even though it was just a smidge, it reminded us that winter is still here and is sticking around for a bit longer.  We can still dream of warmer and longer days of summer fun.

The past couple of weeks was spent improving the shop.  Twelve new shelving units were built by my darling husband Tom to make room for new yarns coming in.  So with that came the rearranging of invenntory, tables and other display units.  It was a lot of work and a little overwehlming.  Luckly I had the assistance of Sue and Tracie to keep me from drowning.  The end result is wonderful.  Please pop in and take a look around.
The customer challenge is in full swing and there is still plenty of time to participate.  This year I choose the Sophi Hood.  I'm using two skeins of Alba Aran by Jody Long. You can see the colors here:
https://www.funwithsticks-strings.com/shop/Yarn/Jody-Long-Yarns/p/Alba-Aran-x72437027.htm
And the pattern can be found for under $5.00 on Raverly:

Sue was the first official entry for this years challenge!  She also used Alba Aran along with a strand of lace weight mohair.  Great job Sue!
If you are not familiar with this challenge here is the information you need.
At the beginning of each year I pick a challenge for all customers.  It might be a specific yarn or pattern and then I give you lots of time to create.  Once you are done I love to display them in the shop on Local Yarn Shop day. The date for this years LYS day is Saturday, April 26, 2025.  Sound fun? Great, I hope you will join us.
I choose the Sophie Hood because I loved the Sophie Scarf that I knit a few years ago.  It was fun and easy to knit and has this great i-cord edging so when the Sophie Hood was released I knew I would love it.  I also don't like to wear hats and this was the perfect solution for those chilly walks with the puppy!
Darling Ginger

There has been lots of talk this month about boycotts.  I do believe this is a great non violent way to protest or show resistance to the happenings around the country.  But, by not shopping/spending on February 28th or any other day small business will feel the impact far greater than the big box stores or online companies.  I was glad to see that there was an exception for Small Business.  So as always, I will ask you to shop small!  I'm lucky to have my business in the Old Town area that is packed with wonderful small business.  Would you please consider shopping small this weekend?

I so appreciate all of you and thank you for your continued support. Remember you can shop 24/7 on our website
